The 2026 summer season officially began at Skiathos Airport on Sunday, 29 March 2026, with the arrival of the first international flight of the year. easyJet operated the inaugural service, flight U2829 from Bristol, using the modern Airbus A320neo G‑UZEF.

This first arrival marks the transition from the quiet winter months to the vibrant, high‑energy atmosphere that defines Skiathos every summer. For aviation enthusiasts, locals, and visitors alike, the season opener is always a symbolic moment — a reminder that the island is waking up and preparing for another year of tourism, traffic, and unforgettable approaches over the beach.

A special thank you goes to George from Amaretto Snack Bar, who captured the video of this first landing. His contribution helps preserve these unique moments that make Skiathos one of the most iconic spotting locations in Europe.

With the first touchdown now behind us, the runway is officially open for another season of spectacular arrivals, low approaches, and the unmistakable summer rhythm of Skiathos Airport.

New warning signs at Skiathos airport

Today, Friday 22 July 2022 morning, after a recent incident with jetblast, Fraport Greece replaces the old signs with new more efficient and more clearly warning signs.
The most important think is written on the middle warning sign:

“ENJOY YOUR HOBBY WITHOUT RISKING YOUR LIFE”

Since standing behind jetblast is not a hobby, the meaning is for SPOTTING! SO here in Greece, in SKIATHOS, we have the FIRST EVER official SPOTTING LOCATION in the country.

The new signs placed above the old, on one side (west side) of the runway only, and not on the east side, where the assigned backtrack turn is taking place.

TUI Air named a Boeing 737 MAX 8, “Skiathos”

TUI Air brand new Boeing 737 MAX 8 with registration G-TUMH named “Skiathos”. Unfortunately the plane is waiting at Boeing Field airport (KBFI/BFI) to be delivered to TUI Air, since the aircraft type is grounded after the Ethiopian crash a few months ago.

Boeing made all software updates and changes and now the airlines all around the world are waiting for the approval by regulatory authorities to resume flight operations for Boeing 737 MAX.
TUI Air “Skiathos” Boeing 737 MAX 8 (G-TUMH) made its first flight on 19 March 2019 with registration N1786B with call sign “BOEING-867”, from the assembly line factory Renton (RNT) to Boeing Field (BFI).

On 1 April 2019 one more test flight performed locally at Boeing Field (BFI) using once more call sign “BOEING-867”. Since then it’s parked at Boeing Field (BFI) waiting for the delivery flight.

Overnight construction works for the terminal renewal

Friday morning 02:00 local time, May 3, 2019 and construction works will not stop.
First Friday at Skiathos with 10 flights, 8 international and two domestic.
Arkefly (TUI Netherlands) is the only international flight with departing passengers (its the second Arkefly of summer season).
One more flight of Condor is coming from Germany and the rest 6 international charter flights are extra-schengen flight from UK. Those 6 flights are “new” so mainly they have arriving passengers.
All flights will still going to use the old terminal.

As reported here, terminal renewal construction works was planned to end by end of April. Looks that we may have a minor delay. But everyone here is working hard to do the best.

Skiathos airport runway designators change

On Saturday March 2, 2019 the change of the runway designators of Skiathos airport took place.

The change was made due to the shift of the magnetic north and the runway magnetic direction had become through the years 015°/195° and these values are reduced every year.

Skiathos magnetic variation is 4° 03’ EAST (as of 1/1/2013) with an annual shift of 5’ 35’’ EAST.

So the runway had to be renamed from 02/20 to 01/19.
